Mr. Ringo heads a member organization representing more than 17 million people across the country. An outspoken and dedicated champion of environmental justice and advocate of clean energy, he worked for more than 20 years in Louisiana’s petrochemical industry. Seeing first-hand the effects of environmental pollution, especially on local, primarily poor and minority communities, he was inspired to begin a career of organizing community environmental justice groups and has spent most of his career working with union members to secure a safe work environment and quality jobs. Ebony magazine named Ringo one of the most influential African Americans for 2006; he was also highlighted in Urban Influence magazine as one of the Top Ten African American Influences in the country.
