Case Histories: Mission College & Santa Barbara City Colleges

Case Histories:
Mission College and
Santa Barbara City Colleges

Mission College

This panel will demonstrate how Mission College, in the face of significant redevelopment challenges, is re-establishing a sense of place for its Santa Clara campus. Through a sustainable focus on creating a holistic campus, inclusive of the larger community, Mission College aims to transform its building- and automobile-centric campus into an innovative learning environment that doubles as an inviting new open space for the entire county. All 5 panelists were involved in the development of the 2009 Mission College Facilities Master Plan, which recently won a SCUP Award of Honor in the “Excellence in Planning for an Established Campus”. Each will provide highlights from the master planning process as well as tangible lessons learned that attendees will be able to apply to their own campus environments.
